Oscar sipping teaGolden Milk –
A Hug in a Mug | Comfort Kitchen Recipe

A warm mug of golden milk with cinnamon
Golden Milk – soothing, cozy, and gentle on the stomach.

A bout with COVID left me with some serious heartburn, so I went on the hunt to find something soothing because I didn’t want to take more medication. This Golden milk became my evening “hug in a mug” —
soothing, anti-inflammatory, and cozy. It’s sunshine you can sip, and a reminder that small swaps can make a big difference.

Ingredients (1 serving)

  • 1 cup oat milk or almond milk (gentler on the stomach than dairy)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Pinch of ground black pepper (helps the turmeric work its magic)
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
  • 1 thin slice fresh ginger or ⅛ teaspoon powdered ginger (optional; go lightly if ginger can trigger you)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (to taste)

Directions

  1. In a small pot, combine the milk, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, and ginger.
  2. Heat gently over medium–low, stirring often — don’t let it boil hard.
  3. Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors infuse.
  4. Strain out the ginger slice (if using).
  5. Pour into your favorite mug, stir in honey or maple syrup, and sip warm.

Why It Matters

Golden milk is my evening reset — soothing, gentle, and kind to the stomach on days when coffee and other foods aren’t my friend.
It’s basically a hug for your insides.
